It begins with a phone call. It ends with a missing child.
On a warm summer’s morning, thirteen-year-old school girl Constance Lawson is reported missing. A few days later, Constance’s uncle, Karl Lawson suddenly finds himself swept up in a media frenzy created by journalist Amanda Bowe implying that he is the prime suspect. Six years later … Karl’s life is in ruins. His marriage is over, his family destroyed. But the woman who took everything away from him is thriving. With a successful career, husband and a gorgeous baby boy, Amanda’s world is complete. Until the day she receives a phone call and in a heartbeat, she is plunged into every mother’s worst nightmare.
Guilty tells the story of 13-year-old Constance Lawson who is reported missing. It doesn't take long for the media to catch fire and point at Karl Lawson, Constance's uncle as the prime suspect.

For the most part, I liked this read. It is told in 4 parts but I feel like it could have been done in 2 or just avoided the separation entirely.
It does move slowly at times; the first half of the book moved fairly quickly and kept my attention. However, the 3rd and the early stage of part 4 was a bit of a slower pace. I do believe the pace was the author's intention. It definitely builds up the suspense! I was just riding the wave from the first half that I was hoping it would keep that momentum throughout.

Having said that, there were points that I absolutely loved. The characters. Guilty is a character-driven novel and they were very well crafted! We were given in-depth back stories that gave us a clear picture of why they are the way they are now, and why they are making the decisions they are making. The author penned exceptional characters. There was nothing perfect or sugar-coated about them. They were raw, imperfect human beings.

Overall, I enjoyed Guilty! As a psychological thriller, it definitely hits the mark! It's heart-wrenching and painfully honest in regards to Constance and her disappearance. The rest is deep, dark and eerie.
