For more than a decade, Jenna Metcalf has never stopped thinking about her mother, Alice, who mysteriously disappeared in the wake of a tragic accident. Refusing to believe that she would be abandoned as a young child, Jenna searches for her mother regularly online and pores over the pages of Alice’s old journals. A scientist who studied grief among elephants, Alice wrote mostly of her research among the animals she loved, yet Jenna hopes the entries will provide a clue to her mother’s whereabouts.
Desperate to find the truth, Jenna enlists two unlikely allies in her quest. The first is Serenity Jones, a psychic who rose to fame finding missing persons—only to later doubt her gifts. The second is Virgil Stanhope, a jaded private detective who originally investigated Alice’s case along with the strange, possibly linked death of one of her colleagues. As the three work together to uncover what happened to Alice, they realize that in asking hard questions, they’ll have to face even harder answers.
As Jenna’s memories dovetail with the events in her mother’s journals, the story races to a mesmerizing finish.

“You can have the best intentions, but the moment there’s a hairline crack, it is only a matter of time before you go to pieces.”

Where do I even start with this one? I have read every single one of Picoult's books and absolutely love her. I have not yet read one that didn't leave me sobbing by the end. So why do I insist on finishing her books in public places? I concluded Leaving Time at the gym: Thank goodness I was a sweaty mess because it provided a nice disguise to mask all those tears!

Leaving Time was so compelling! I wouldn't couldn't put it down. Being a fan of Picoult, I know that she does a lot of extensive research regarding the subjects of her books. Leaving Time was no exception. This book has a heavy(no pun intended) Elephant background. We are given an amazing lesson on how the majestic creatures' memories work. I was just as engrossed in those portions of the book as I was of the main, fictional story.

Jodi Picoult is known for her multiple perspective story-telling and this novel was no exception. We experience all sides of the story from 4 POV's: Jenna, the Daughter, Alice, the Mother, Serenity, the Psychic and Virgil, the ex-cop. Each are told in the present tense except for Alice. Her story starts from the Beginning of her work as an Elephant Researcher, leading up the story's main event. Which will leave you on the edge of your seat!

Buckle your seat belt because Leaving Time will take you on one wild adventure. Just as you think you're getting somewhere, or on to something, Jodi Picoult puts her classic spin on things and leads you down a rabbit hole of "What Ifs" and Who-Dunnits".

Another Masterpiece by Jodi Picoult! One that will take you through an epic reading experience. Keep the Kleenex close by and prepare your jaw to drop!

Rethinking Norman by Katie Rain Hill

Rethinking Normal: A Memoir in Transition

Publisher: Simon and Schuster
Genre: Memoir

Series: None
Format: Paperback

In her unique, generous, and affecting voice, nineteen-year-old Katie Hill shares her personal journey of undergoing gender reassignment.Have you ever worried that you'd never be able to live up to your parents' expectations? Have you ever imagined that life would be better if you were just invisible? Have you ever thought you would do anything--anything--to make the teasing stop? Katie Hill had and it nearly tore her apart.Katie never felt comfortable in her own skin. She realized very young that a serious mistake had been made; she was a girl who had been born in the body of a boy. Suffocating under her peers' bullying and the mounting pressure to be "normal," Katie tried to take her life at the age of eight years old. After several other failed attempts, she finally understood that "Katie"--the girl trapped within her--was determined to live.A beautifully written memoir about growth and self discovery,

It's always hard to review a memoir because how do you review and critic what someone actually lived through? The experiences are real, the characters are real and the emotions are real. It's tough to review, however, it is not tough to discuss it!

The author, Katie Rain Hill stole my heart upon reading the very first line: I hate flies...She is full of so much light and humour. She made me laugh out loud on more than one occasion. You would never believe that this person once struggled with their identity. Katie Hill's personality jumps off the pages. She screams confidence and independence. I am almost positive that if I were to meet her in real life I would say "This woman really rocks. She knows exactly who she is!" And she does! But it wasn't always that way for her. She was a girl trapped in a boys body and this detailed telling of her story takes us through the highs and the lows of her transition into the beautiful person she is today.

Katie does not sugar coat anything throughout this memoir. She is very raw and honest about her experiences with bullying and discrimination. She is also very open with her experiences with heartbreak. One lovely person Katie always had in her corner was her Mother. Some are not so fortunate to have the love and support from their family but Katie's mother remained her Cheerleader, rock, confidant and everything in between throughout this whole journey of Katie's growth.

This book would be so resourceful and helpful for teenagers. There are so many children out there today that are discovering who they are but may be afraid. You don't have to be a transgender to understand the things this book can offer. Anyone struggling or trying to become their own person can gain something from this book. It is a wonderfully written story about self discovery and personal growth!

EssayMama Review

Essaymama.com is an essay writing service that offers to craft essays to help students learn how to do it for themselves. They don’t promise the top grades, but they do promise an education. That’s why we decided to review it. It’s a site that doesn’t support plagiarism and believes in the power of learning.

In this review, we explore the various aspects of the website to conclude whether it’s truly worth having your essays written by these writers..

Work Quality

Immediately, we have to comment on the level of quality leaving this company. They do deliver on their promises of quality. We placed multiple orders and they all met the standards we would expect of a top-quality essay.

There were no formatting issues and the writer attacked the topic from multiple angles. They were able to match the style of different types of essays and meet all the instructions supplied in the order brief.

Deadlines

Essaymama.com does have the ability to meet its deadlines. It offers rush orders where you can get your essays back in as little as three hours. This only applies to certain assignments, though. If you ask for longer pieces of work, this won’t be available to you.

The company operates on a 24-hour basis. To test this, we placed multiple orders at different times of the day and night. They were able to meet our deadlines each and every time without any problems.

Level of Customer Support
The level of customer support is good. You can access their customer support team whenever you like through the live chat system. The only downside is they don’t offer any numbers to call them with.

Nonetheless, the customer support agents we came into contact with obviously knew how to do their jobs. They seemed to know the essay writing service extremely well and were able to answer some quite complex questions with the greatest of ease.

They were also able to pass on messages to their writers on our behalf. It allowed us to update instructions without impacting our deadline.

Guarantees

These ‘write my essay’ services do come with a number of guarantees. We’ve listed the main ones here:

  • Quality guarantee. If your essay isn’t completed to the highest standards you can request free revisions at no charge.

  • Confidentiality. Your information will never be shared with anyone else without your written permission.

  • All papers are original and written by subject specialists.

We can say that these guarantees did make us feel secure and as if we could hold them accountable if something went wrong. Unfortunately, nothing did go wrong so we never had the chance to test out the validity of these guarantees.

Prices
The prices you’ll get through this website are about the industry average. The prices are influenced by how quickly you want the paper back and at what quality you want it completed at.

If you wanted a turnaround time of ten days at standard quality, you’d have to pay $19.99 per page. Change this option to platinum quality with a three-hour turnaround and it would cost you $52.99 per page.

These prices don’t reinvent the wheel. They aren’t the cheapest you’ll find, but they’re nowhere near the most expensive.

We rated these essays based on the value for money they brought. For what you pay, you’re getting a fantastic deal. There’s no reason why you wouldn’t be happy getting an essay of this quality if you paid what we paid.

Special Offers
Essaymama.com does offer a number of special offers. With this essay writing service, you’ll find discounts starting from 5% off when you order over 15 pages to 15% off if you order over 101 pages.

These discounts appear to be permanent, but because we’re not long-term users we can’t confirm or deny this as of yet.

What’s clear is that they do pay attention to their customers and want to boost the value for money on offer. All new customers can take advantage of a 20% discount from a promotional code displayed clearly on the front page.

Conclusion
In conclusion, this is a website that offers a lot of value for money. We couldn’t fault anything to do with the quality of the work, and we admire the fact that every customer is entitled to some sort of offer. It makes you feel special and as if they care about you from the moment you hit that first landing page.

We would definitely recommend essaymama.com to anyone who needed a website to help them with their essay writing skills.

Be sure to check out Essaymama's epic Christmas Writing Contest!

Top Ten Books/Movies To Read Or Watch To Get In The Halloween Spirit

My favourite time of the year is near! I absolutely love Halloween! I have many Halloween traditions and of course I have many favourite books and movies I turn to, to get in the Halloween spirit. I am splitting up this week's Top 10 into 2 groups of 5. Top 5 Halloween/Horror movies and Top 5 Halloween reads.

Top 5 Books to Get in the Halloween Spirit

The Shining

A perfect ghost story to kick off the best part of the season!

Carrie

Another King classic that pairs the paranormal together with a heart-wrenching story.

Dark Harvest

*Shudders* Just damn right terrifying!

Ten

A great way to build up suspense for the grand finale!

The Exorcist

If you think the movie was scary then you ain't seen nothing yet!

Top 5 Movies to Get in the Halloween Spirit

Hocus Pocus

A MUST for every year!

Casper

Another tame but family favourite but one that I still can't resist!

The Amityville Horror
(Original 1979 version)

Absolutely terrifying! This is a 'Can't sleep without a light on" kinda movie! And of course it has to be the original. The remake was good(because of a very shirtless Ryan Reynolds) but nothing stands up to this one!

Insidious

Um ya, just freakin' scary!

The Blair Witch Project

I saw this movie when I was 11 years old in the theatre. It scared the bejezeus right out of me! It has remained a favourite of mine for both the nostalgia and the horror movie factor.

Remember when it first came out there was all that hype about it being real? Ya, that stopped me from walking near the woods for a very long time!

I can't wait to see what is one your list! Please link your post in the comments so I can add to my Halloween book/movie collection!

Happy Halloween!

When a boy tries to save his parents’ marriage, he uncovers a legacy of family secrets in a coming-of-age ghost story by the author of the internationally bestselling phenomenon, The Art of Racing in the Rain.
In the summer of 1990, fourteen-year-old Trevor Riddell gets his first glimpse of Riddell House. Built from the spoils of a massive timber fortune, the legendary family mansion is constructed of giant, whole trees, and is set on a huge estate overlooking Puget Sound. Trevor’s bankrupt parents have begun a trial separation, and his father, Jones Riddell, has brought Trevor to Riddell House with a goal: to join forces with his sister, Serena, dispatch Grandpa Samuel—who is flickering in and out of dementia—to a graduated living facility, sell off the house and property for development into “tract housing for millionaires,” divide up the profits, and live happily ever after.
But Trevor soon discovers there’s someone else living in Riddell House: a ghost with an agenda of his own. For while the land holds tremendous value, it is also burdened by the final wishes of the family patriarch, Elijah, who mandated it be allowed to return to untamed forestland as a penance for the millions of trees harvested over the decades by the Riddell Timber company. The ghost will not rest until Elijah’s wish is fulfilled, and Trevor’s willingness to face the past holds the key to his family’s future.

Garth Stein first won my heart when he penned The Art of Racing in the Rain. That book still remains one of my favourite novels of all time. When I learned that Stein was releasing a new novel, I couldn't wait for the opportunity to read it!

My initial attraction to this novel was the big spooky house and the ghost story aspect. What I was left with after reading this novel was a wonderfully written coming-of-age story. There were spine chilling elements of this novel and a lot of wonderful historical aspects. I think my favourite character aside of Trevor was Grandpa Samuel. From my very first introduction with this character he formed a soft spot with me!

Stein has proven to have quite the talent when it comes to crafting riveting characters and a wonderful plot to go along with them. He also provides a great amount of back story and weaves everything together to create a spellbinding reading experience! He also provides some good ol' jaw-droppers. There were some twists in this book that I was not expecting!

A Sudden Light packs a lot of punch and is a book that you should definitely add to your October Reading list. Curl up on the couch and crack open this novel. A Sudden Light is the whole package!
