Carrie by Stephen King

Carrie

Genre: Horror
Pages: 253 Pages
Series: None
Format: Paperback

Reason: Personal interest

The story of misfit high-school girl, Carrie White, who gradually discovers that she has telekinetic powers. Repressed by a domineering, ultra-religious mother and tormented by her peers at school, her efforts to fit in lead to a dramatic confrontation during the senior prom.

“Sorry is the Kool-Aid of human emotions. It's what you say when you spill a cup of coffee or throw a gutter ball when you're bowling with the girls in the league. True sorrow is as rare as true love.”- Sue Snell

This is my 2nd Stephen King novel. My first was Joyland, and that one didn't go over too well! My interest was piqued with this one because of the "Carrie Craze" happening right now due to the remake.

Now I have been a lover of horror movies all my life, so I know the Carrie story very well because of the movie(and all it's unnecessary remakes!). I went into this novel knowing the story very well. However, that did not change the terrifying reading experience! I almost found it even more heart-wrenching to read about this story than seeing it unfold on the screen. Even though the outcome of this novel is horrifying, you absolutely cannot help but sympathize with this poor girl.

I enjoyed the flow of Stephen King's writing style so much more in this novel. With Joyland, I had a horrible time connecting with the characters because the writing style was so descriptive that it totally took away from the characters and storyline. That was not the case with Carrie. Although this is a very heavy and dark novel, I could not help but devour it!

Stephen King, you redeemed yourself with Carrie. I am sorry I ever doubted you!

Colette Iselin is excited to go to Paris on a class trip. She’ll get to soak up the beauty and culture, and maybe even learn something about her family’s French roots.
But a series of gruesome murders are taking place across the city, putting everyone on edge. And as she tours museums and palaces, Colette keeps seeing a strange vision: a pale woman in a ball gown and powdered wig, who looks suspiciously like Marie Antoinette.

Colette knows her popular, status-obsessed friends won’t believe her, so she seeks out the help of a charming French boy. Together, they uncover a shocking secret involving a dark, hidden history. When Colette realizes she herself may hold the key to the mystery, her own life is suddenly in danger . . .

Some of you may know this about me, but I am a Marie Antoinette/French Revolution Junkie. I have always had a fascination about Marie Antoinette and that era. So, when I had a bit of a mysterious craving and saw Marie Antoinette, Serial Killer sitting on my bookshelf, how could I say no? After all, the blurb promises "heart stopping-suspense".

Marie Antoinette, Serial Killer definitely quenched my suspenseful thirst. I was wanting something that would have me flying through the pages; Something that would give me a thrilling ride, and this novel gave me all 3 plus more!

Let me start by saying that Marie Antoinette, Serial Killer is very character driven. In fact, it is probably mostly character driven. Yes, there is a wonderful, fast-paced storyline that teams up with it, but if not for these strong, perfectly crafted character, the story would have flopped. This was definitely one of the cases where I didn't that those qualities were unbalanced.

The authors writing style takes you from your couch, workplace lunch room, gym or wherever you may be, and places you right in the streets of Paris, where you can almost see the cobblestone roads and smell the sweet, pastry air! Katie Alender penned characters that you will like, love and hate:

My Love List:
  1. Colette
  2. Jules
  3. Audrey
My Like List:
  1. Pillar
  2. Jule's entire family!
My Hate Dislike List:
  1. Armand
  2. Hannah
Okay, maybe Hate is a tad strong, so we'll go with dislike. I loved that the author gives you such a stunning character cast, and makes them realistic. We don't like everyone we meet, so why should a book be any different, right?

I was totally on board the Jules train! He was such an awesome character. He was sweet, kind and generous; That added to the swoon factor BIG TIME!

Marie Antoinette, Serial Killer is the perfect book to curl up to by a fire during the cold days that are coming.  You will devour this murderous, ghostly tale! And I promise you, you will be on the edge of your seat until the very last page!

I Can't Believe You Haven't Read That?!

First off, Hello Crazy Readers!

I apologize for my lack of posts over the last couple weeks. I had to dust some cobwebs off the blog this morning! I have been trying to master a juggling act these last few weeks as my life is moving through some transitioning. Nothing major, but time consuming! I am currently enrolled in a Yoga Teacher Training module right now to become Yoga Instructor Certified; While doing that, I am also balancing 2 jobs(Bookstore and dog grooming) along with my day to day life. I am trying to find a balance for everything, but have yet to succeed in that at the moment. Sorry! Please be patient with me!

Okay, enough of that! On with the good stuff!

You Haven't Read That?!

Do you ever feel pressure as a book blogger, or even as a reader to read all the hottest new books and series'. Well, I know I feel the pressure sometimes! Below are some of the most talked about books, that I haven't read.

Please, no book through upon reading this post. I am not proud of this list!

Harry Potter Boxset (Harry Potter, #1-7)
*Disclaimer: I am currently reading the first one!*

The Infernal Devices: Clockwork Angel; Clockwork Prince; Clockwork Princess (The Infernal Devices, #1-3)
I adored The Mortal Instruments Series! I have no idea why I haven't devoured this series yet!

Across the Universe (Across the Universe, #1)
Science Fiction scares me...

Wither (The Chemical Garden, #1)
Despite the amazing feedback this book/series has gotten. It still doesn't sound like one I would like...

Crank (Crank, #1)
I have read Impulse and Burned and LOVED those! Just have yet to read this one.

Sarah Dessen Gift Set
If I haven't already been shunned by the Book Reading community because of Harry Potter, this one may be the final straw!

Delirium (Delirium, #1)
Or any Lauren Oliver novel for that matter...

Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2)
I was late to the party with this series. I devoured The Hunger Games but have yet to pick up the remaining 2 books.

I'm not proud of this confession! I have no excuses as to why I haven't read these. I own them all; Some in pretty box sets! I guess this is a good time to say:
