Death has her in his clutches. She doesn’t want him to let go.
Seventeen-year-old Pierce Oliviera knew by accepting the love of John Hayden, she’d be forced to live forever in the one place she’s always dreaded most: the Underworld. The sacrifice seemed worth it, though, because it meant she could be with the boy she loves.
But now her happiness — and safety — are threatened, all because the Furies have discovered that John has broken one of their strictest rules: He revived a human soul.
If the balance between life and death isn’t fixed, both the Underworld and Pierce’s home back on earth will be wiped away. But there’s only one way to restore order. Someone has to die.

When Awaken finally arrived at my doorstep, I did a total 13 year old fan girl squeal/dance. I have no shame! This was one of my most anticipated books of 2013.

So, how did I like it? I didn't...I loved it!(like what I did there?). Which comes to no surprise to me. The Abandon Trilogy is on my all time favourite reads. Each time I'm transported me to Isla Huesos/The Underworld, and always guaranteed a thrilling reading experience; Awaken did not lack on either of those elements!

Although I do love the atmosphere of The Underworld, The majority of Awaken takes place in Isla Huesos; And was action packed from beginning to end. The first quarter of the book will leave you jaw dropped, teary eyed, angry and in denial. You simply cannot believe What. Just. Happened!

Let the games begin!

What a roller coaster! Furies, Fates, evil Rectors, Oh my! Just when you think the story is going one way, you're a spun around into a totally different(and exciting!) direction.

Okay, I've made it clear that the story does not lack excitement and action from beginning to end, let's get on with the characters.  Pierce is just as amazing as I remember. She is stubborn, stands for her values/beliefs and does not take orders from anyone(even if he is a 6 foot tall, tattoo covered man, and is Captain of the Underworld) She will go her way, whether you like it or not. I love that trait of hers! And John, it is no shock that he is as swoon worthy as ever. Why can't a Ruler of the Underworld whisk me away(Kidding!...Sorta) I just adore his character. And even though he is portrayed as this really bad-ass guy; I still love when his soft side oozes out whenever Pierce is around. They are 2 fantastic characters! And of course, we can't forget the secondary cast. Pierce's parent's make a bigger appearance in this final installment, and I loved that! No one was left out. A great way to wrap up a wonderful story!

I loved every minute of Awaken even though it was a bittersweet reading experience. This series will always remain a favourite of mine! Meg Cabot wrapped up the story beautifully(Really, It was just missing the bow!), but I won't object to a 4th book(hint, hint)

  1. I've had mixed experiences with the first two books but since it's Meg Cabot, I'm still planning to finish this trilogy. I hope it ends strong in my opinion!
