2012 End of the Year Survey

best books read in 2012
This great survey was created by The Perpetual Page-Turner

1. Best Book You Read In 2012? (You can break it down by genre if you want)

If asked this question last week, it would have been a very tough one to answer! But I just finished Just One Day by Gayle Forman..And that was the best book I read this year!

If I was allowed to name more, I would definitely add in Pushing the Limits and The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

2. Book You Were Excited About & Thought You Were Going To Love More But Didn’t?

Hmm... It's a toss up between Velveteen and Dead to You. I couldn't wait to devour both, but unfortunately, the left me underwhelmed.

 3. Most surprising (in a good way!) book of 2012?

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. It was my first John Green novel(I know!) and I wasn't expecting to be blown away. Boy, was I wrong! That book hit me on all kinds of different levels!

 4. Book you recommended to people most in 2012?

*The Fault in our Stars-It's on my staff picks at work whenever it comes in!

*The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Couldn't pick just one!

5. Best series you discovered in 2012?

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins..I know right! Again, I was late getting into this one. I finally gave into reading it because I knew I wanted to see the movie, and I LOVED it!

 6. Favorite new authors you discovered in 2012?

*John Green-The Fault in Our Stars started it all!
*Stephen Chbosky- The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Read the book before I saw the movie...Both were epic!
*Suzanne Collins- The Hunger Games
*Katie McGarry- Pushing the Limits...Amazing!

7. Best book that was out of your comfort zone or was a new genre for you?

The Friday Society by Adrienne Kress. It's a Steampunk novel. I never thought I would enjoy that genre but she proved me wrong!

 8. Most thrilling, unputdownable book in 2012?

I'm sorry, I can't do it! I can't pick just one! I will have to narrow it down to 3..Sorry for breaking the rules!

*The Fault in Our Stars. Trying not to repeat myself, but yes, this one has to be on the list!
*Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry.
*Just One Day by Gayle Forman. I have never been held captive by a book like that before in my life. This book is just...indescribable!

9. Book You Read In 2012 That You Are Most Likely To Re-Read Next Year:

The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I can't believe I waited so long to read this one. I've already re-read it twice, so I know I will re-read it again in 2013!

10. Favorite cover of a book you read in 2012?

I bought the Paperback version of Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys. Stunning!

Between Shades of Gray

11. Most memorable character in 2012?

Allyson/Lulu-Just One Day by Gayle Forman
Noah Hutchins-Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry
Bobby- Undead by Kirsty McKay(A Zombie butt-kicking heroine..Yes!)

12. Most beautifully written book read in 2012?

Wow! Do I keep repeating myself?!

Just One Day by Gayle Forman

I also have to mention Freaks and Revelations by Davida Wills Hurwin. It's based on True Events so a little  more emotional, but the writing was just beautiful.

13. Book that had the greatest impact on you in 2012?

Just One Day. The novel is so much about self growth and discovery, that it had me thinking about where I am in life. It had me thinking about things that I still want to do. And in many ways I am a lot like Allyson. Just a simple girl who stays in the same place. There is a whole world out there, and since reading Just One Day I am even more eager to discover it!

 14. Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2012 to finally read?

Hmm..A toss up between The Perks of Being a Wallflower and The Hunger Games. I think I'll go with The Hunger Games considering how much hype that book got but I just meh about it. It didn't sound like something I would like..But yes, I was proven so very wrong!

15. Favorite Passage/Quote From A Book You Read In 2012?

“I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, then all at once.”  The Fault in our Stars

“There's nothing like deep breaths after laughing that hard. Nothing in the world like a sore stomach for the right reasons.”  The Perks of Being a Wallflower

If you’re scared, tell me. If you need to cry and scream, then do it. And you sure as hell don’t walk away from us because you think it would be better for me. Here’s the reality, Echo: I want to be by your side. If you want to go to the mall stark naked so you can show the world your scars, then let me hold your hand. If you want to see your mom, then tell me that too. I may not always understand, but damn, baby, I’ll try.” Noah-Pushing the Limits

16.Shortest & Longest Book You Read In 2012?

Longest- Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry

Shortest- The Perks of Being A Wallflower

 17. Book That Had A Scene In It That Had You Reeling And Dying To Talk To Somebody About It? (a WTF moment, an epic revelation, a steamy kiss, etc. etc.) Be careful of spoilers!

  1. The one that surprised me the most is Hunger Games, I don't usually like that genre, and only read it because my son recommended it. It was an amazing read.
