A bastard hybrid of War of the Worlds and Night of the Living Dead, the Autumn series chronicles the struggle survivors are forced to contend with in a world torn apart by a deadly disease. 99% of the population of the planet has been killed in less than 24 hours. Animated by “phase two” of some unknown contagion, the dead begin to rise. At first slow, blind, dumb and lumbering, the bodies soon regain their most basic senses and abilities—sight, hearing, locomotion—as well as the instinct toward aggression and violence. Held back only by the restraints of their rapidly decomposing flesh, the dead seem to have only one single goal—to lumber forth and destroy the sole remaining attraction in the silent, lifeless world: those who have survived the plague, who now find themselves outnumbered 1,000,000 to 1...

In Autumn: Purification, the heroes from the original Autumn novel and Autumn: The City work together to survive in this horrifying new world.

David Moody had me hooked with his Autumn series from the very beginning. His unique twist on the genre(never using the "Z" word) made for a refreshing read.

This is third book in the series. When I first read Autumn, I thought it was hands down, my favourite. Then I read Autumn: The City and thought that one would remain #1 to me. Well, I was proven wrong again, Autumn: Purification has made it's way to my favourite(at least until Autumn: Disintegration hits shelves!)

The emotional personality of this book was definitely amped up from the previous two. The raw fear that these characters feel is enough to send a chill down your spine. The Autumn books were known to be page-turners, but this one was a whole different story. The desire to get to the end was almost unbearable, I was dying to know how David Moody was going to end this installment. I was not disappointed! Jaw-dropped and teary eyed is how the book ended for me, and the wait for November 2011, is going to be a grueling one!

David Moody has proved himself to be an incredible writer. His astounding world building, and impressing character development are one of a kind. He flawlessly pieces these two key elements together, and in the end created another masterpiece to an epic series!

  2. I've had Autumn on my list, because I've heard so many great things -- and I love zombies! Didn't even know there was a second book. let alone a third. I want these! I can't find David Moody's guest post. I looked in your link, and there is an interview, but he wasn't listed under "Guest Posts." I must get that extra entry!

Thanks for a great review and giveaway!

  7. Hi there,

I stumbled over your blog after searching for articles about David Moody.

It's a really funny coincidence because I helped organizing a rpg convention where we have the whole Autumn series in our lottery waiting for a winner! The four books are the German copies signed by the author himself!
I for myself read the first two books and they were really great!

    Have a nice weekend

    Nic
