the cold.

Grace has spent years watching the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf—her wolf—watches back. He feels deeply familiar to her, but she doesn't know why.

the heat.

Sam has lived two lives. As a wolf, he keeps the silent company of the girl he loves. And then, for a short time each year, he is human, never daring to talk to Grace...until now.

the shiver.

For Grace and Sam, love has always been kept at a distance. But once it's spoken, it cannot be denied. Sam must fight to stay human—and Grace must fight to keep him—even if it means taking on the scars of the past, the fragility of the present, and the impossibility of the future.

"It is possible to be in love with you just because of who you are." Sam

Can someone please tell my why I waited so long to finally read this?! Shiver has sat on my bookshelf for a while, and I always found my eyes wondering to it, but for some reason, I always chose a different book to read. Well, after I received Forever, the third and last installment in the series for review, I said to myself "I better start reading those books!".

Although I've heard countless amazing things about this series, I was still a little unsure of how I was going to like it. I am picky when it comes to my paranormal/fantasy novels. When I first started Shiver I was immediately hooked, Maggie Stiefvaters writing pulled me in from the very first page, and hasn't let me go. I am now a forever fan of her writing!

The characters she created in Grace and Sam were just right. It was love at first sight for Grace, ever since she laid eyes on her wolf, Sam when she was attacked by his pack as a little girl. After that day she was obsessed with the wolves, especially Sam. She loved him. The way the author created their love story was incredibly unique to me, it is not your average paranormal romance. It was so much more than that. Grace had loved Sam as a wolf first, and their love only grew when he was in his human form.

The Setting of this novel was also very picturesque, not only did the book play out like a film in my head, but it felt as if I was right there with Grace and Sam. The author described the surroundings beautifully, not overwhelming with unneeded descriptions but providing the right amount to place you at the scene.

Maggie Stiefvater crafted a beautiful story, both heart-warming and heart-wrenching. I can't wait to continue the series with the next book, Linger.

  1. Hmm.... I might have to check this one out!

  2. On the bright side, because you waited you can now read all three books in a row instead of waiting a year between each. I love Stiefvater's writing!

  3. I can't tell you why you waited so long but I'm glad you finally hopped on the train! At least you can read all the books without waiting now ^-^

Great review and I'm SO glad you liked Shiver!!!

  4. I want to read Shiver so bad! But for some reason I haven't got my hands on that book yet. But I hope I'll get it someday:)

  5. I also have Shiver and Linger sitting on my shelf and haven't read them yet. Not because I haven't wanted to - there is just always something else that needs to be read first. I am going to have to carve out some time soon to read this series! Lovely review.

  7. Astonishingly good book, especially since I was completely able to believe the paranormal aspects of it. The readers did a phenomenal job creating good voices for the characters, as well.
